Specialization in Pediatrics

ABOUT THE

Program

Pediatrics is the medical specialty that studies the child, their normal processes of growth and development, and their diseases. The term pediatrics is derived from the Greek words”paidos” which means child, and “iateria” which means healing, but its content is much greater than the cure of children’s diseases, as pediatrics studies both the healthy and the sick child. Chronologically, pediatrics ranges from birth to adolescence.

The Specialization in Pediatrics program is a formal education program of surgical medical specialization that allows the deepening of the health process in child and adolescent diseases, acquiring the knowledge, skills, and skills for their comprehensive care at different levels of complexity.

In our country, the pediatric population, including adolescents, occupies a predominant place in the population pyramid, requiring their health and disease care specialists in Pediatrics. According to data from CENDEX in our country there is still an inadequacy of professionals for the care of children. The UIS Specialization in Pediatrics program seeks to supplement some of this deficiency by training comprehensive professionals who serve children, and is the only institution in the Colombian Northeast region that offers this Specialization.
