ABOUT THE
Program
The Master in Semiotics of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) trains highly qualified professionals for the scientific investigation of cultural practices, which are understood as interactions between complex symbolic sets. To this end, the program offers solid training based on the strategic axes that constitute its curricular design:
Epistemological and methodological construction of semiotics as a science of the foundations of meaning.
Semiotic analysis within the enunciative praxis and in relation to semiotic systems and culture.
Interdisciplinarity for the scientific understanding of the complexity of semiotic objects.
Scientific investigation of the problems of meaning from specific problems of the Colombian socio-cultural environment.
Qualified registration: Resolution of the Ministry of National Education (MEN) No. 18120 dated September 9, 2021, with a validity of 4 years.

Profile
.The candidate for the Master’s Degree in Semiotics at the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) is a professional in disciplinary fields related to language sciences, educational sciences, social sciences, human sciences, arts, design, architecture and philosophy.
Likewise, the applicant is a person who has the required skills of the Spanish language for the production of scientific texts.
Applicants whose mother tongue is not Spanish must present an internationally recognized certificate of proficiency in Spanish at the B2 level.

Profile
.The graduate of the Master’s Degree in Semiotics from the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) has communicative and research skills that allow him to be autonomous in his/her learning and research processes. In addition, he/she has a high level of critical and scientific argumentation in his/her area of specialization in semiotics: literature, linguistics, discourse studies and cultural practices.
The graduate is also a professional qualified to implement research projects in the above-mentioned areas and to propose significant innovations in the socio-cultural context that surrounds him/her.

The Legal Monthly Minimum Wage (SMMLV) for 2026 is COP 1,750,905.
The university has a mechanism through which a student’s financial obligations can be partially or totally covered by a company or entity that wishes to support the student.
Also, various forms of payment have been arranged so that students can combine the available forms of payment according to their particular conditions. On the page “Start the registration process”, you will find the available options.
Additionally, to facilitate access to postgraduate programs, the UIS has signed various agreements with entities specialized in educational credit. These agreements seek facilities and better credit conditions for UIS students.
Students with a voting certificate from Colombia’s last popular election process may request a 10% discount on tuition fees.

REGISTRATION
Requirements
The documentation is received digitally by e-mail espselem@uis.edu.co in PDF format.
Note: By clicking on the “Registration” button you will find the forms to fill out the documentation requested below.
1. UIS registration form duly completed and signed.
2. Resume, it has to be done in the UIS format established institutionally for this purpose, with the attachment of the certificates and copies of documents that corroborate what is described in it.
3. Copy of valid identity document valid in Colombia or valid passport for foreigners.
4. Recent document type photo, preferably in digital format, white background 3×4.
5. Copy of the diploma or Photocopy of the undergraduate degree certificate required by the program, issued by a recognized HEI in Colombia.
Note 1: If the applicant has a degree from a foreign university, it must be duly apostilled and translated into Spanish if it is in a foreign language. The degrees must be validated before the Ministerio de Educación Nacional of the Republic of Colombia in case the applicant is going to study a master’s degree in the area of health, law or other area regulated by national regulations that require this administrative act.
6. Certificate of the grades obtained during undergraduate studies, with a weighted average equal to or higher than three point fifty (3.50), and those of the research or in-depth master’s degree programs completed.
Note 1: In the case of UIS undergraduate alumni, it is not necessary to provide it.
7. Receipt of payment issued by the UIS treasury for the current value of the registration or receipt of consignment in the account authorized by the UIS.
8. If the advisory committee so determines, proof of reading comprehension and written production in Spanish language, presenting the certificate of approval issued by the UIS School of Languages.
Note 1: The cost of the certification or test is not included in the registration fee for the graduate program.
9. For research master’s degrees, certification of foreign language level equivalent to or higher than level A1 according to the CEFR for languages, according to standardized test or issued by the UIS Institute of Languages.
Note 1: This certification will not be required for those applicants who are native speakers of a foreign language or who have obtained a university degree in a foreign language, according to the description of such studies in the corresponding documents.
10. Receipt of payment, issued by the UIS treasury, for the current value of the psycho-technical test (if required) or receipt of consignment in the authorized accounts.
11. Two (2) confidential letters of academic reference, in sealed envelopes, sent directly to the graduate coordination, according to the form established by the UIS.
Research Master’s Degrees: endorsement letter from a research group or center of the UIS or from a scientific institution with which there is an agreement in force, signed by the director of the same, and in which the applicant is presented to the program.
