ABOUT THE

Program

Conceived under the effort of the schools of Physics and Geology, the Master in Geophysics at the Universidad Industrial de Santander is aimed at professionals in the basic sciences and engineering.

Being the second postgraduate of its kind that was established in the country, this master’s degree meets the needs of the regions to have experts who analyze and study terrestrial phenomena from the physical perspective.

The program trains teachers who stand out for their ability to carry out research related to the earth sciences, such as the exploration and exploitation of natural resources, risk prevention and environmental geophysics.

Profile

The Masters in Geophysics is aimed at professionals in Physics, Geology and related areas. The applicant must be highly motivated by the study of the Earth Sciences, interested in scientific computation and inclined towards the analysis of physics and mathematics.

To apply, basic knowledge in geology, mechanics, electromagnetism, waves and differential, integral and vector calculus must be demonstrated. Likewise, it is required to feel disposed to carry out field activities and for the application of the scientific method to understand the planet.

The Master in Geophysics graduated from the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) is a comprehensive professional of science that demonstrates ethical, political and social commitment to the country.

Our graduates contribute to social progress by interpreting, transforming and generating knowledge in the area of geophysics. Likewise, they actively participate in research and development processes in the prospection of deposits (mineral or energy), as well as in the evaluation of phenomena associated with geological, seismic and volcanic hazards and in the understanding of the environment.

The university has a mechanism through which a student’s financial obligations can be partially or totally covered by a company or entity that wishes to support the student.

Also, various forms of payment have been arranged so that students can combine the available forms of payment according to their particular conditions. On the page “Start the registration process”, you will find the available options.

Additionally, to facilitate access to postgraduate programs, the UIS has signed various agreements with entities specialized in educational credit. These agreements seek facilities and better credit conditions for UIS students.

Students with a voting certificate from Colombia’s last popular election process may request a 10% discount on tuition fees.

Note: By clicking on the “Inscripción” (Registration) button you will find the forms to fill out the documentation requested below.

UIS registration form duly completed and signed.
Resume, in the UIS format established institutionally for this purpose, with the attachment of certificates and copies of documents that corroborate what is described in it.
Copy of valid identity document valid in Colombia or valid passport for foreigners.
Recent document type photo, preferably in digital format, white background 3×4.
Copy of the diploma or copy of the undergraduate degree certificate required by the program, issued by an institution of higher education recognized in Colombia.
Note 1: If the applicant has a degree from a foreign university, it must be duly apostilled and translated into Spanish if it is in a foreign language. The degrees must be validated by the Ministry of National Education of the Republic.
Certificate of the grades obtained in the undergraduate program required by the program, including the weighted average.

Note 2: In the case of UIS undergraduate graduates, it is not necessary to provide this document.

Receipt of payment issued by the UIS treasury for the current value of the registration fee or receipt of consignment in the account authorized by the UIS.
Certification of a foreign language level equivalent to or higher than A1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, based on a standardized test or issued by the UIS Language Institute.
Two (2) academic reference letters, sent directly by the professors to the graduate program coordination at docfis@uis.edu.co, according to the form established by the Universidad Industrial de Santander, which will be provided by the academic-administrative unit to which the master’s program is affiliated.
Endorsement letter from a UIS research group or center, or from a scientific institution with which there is a current agreement, signed by its director, introducing the applicant to the program. The endorsement letter represents the issuer’s commitment to support the applicant’s research work and to help strengthen the conditions for the development of the thesis.
